Laura Deakin has called her collection of brooches, necklaces and earrings ‘Confused Jewellery’. The work plays ironically with the concepts of ‘assumed function’ and ‘expected function’. She combines traditional jewellery materials like pearls (also fake) or silver studs with polyester resin in a strange and unexpected manner. They get lumpy and entangle, split and ‘splash’ – and form splendid new jewellery designs!
